Default lifter death AGAIN

Help!, this is the second time the same exact lifter has broken. Head is off and cam is out, lifter is flattened. What would cause this same exact lifter to collapse every 3 months ??? doesnt look like a spun cam bearing.. any input is appreciated!

I'd mic the lifter bores and look for variation...potentially that particular bore is smaller diameter than the rest, causing the lifter to drag.

I'd also pull the associated valvespring and a few others to have them pressure tested...potentially that spring is out of spec.

Did you check the cam - this must be ruffed-up by now? Is this a high lift cam? How about the rest of the valve train components like the pushrod, rocker, spring, valve, etc?

Is this a stock lifter; I'm running a Comp racing lifter with a mild cam and no problems...

Hey guys thnx for the responses so far, its a fms f4 cam, its nothing huge. they are all stock lifters, but im just curious as to why its that same damn one again.. there has to be something else wrong.and yes thats exactly what the past 2 lifters have looked like lol. If anything i want to atleast put another one back in cause i have limited time left before i have to put it back in the garage for winter again... i've already gone a month without it . The first lifter died with stock cam and 46k on the clock.. when i swapped to the fms f4 cam i upgraded to hardened rods, comp 918's and titanium retainers. I don't know what to do the car is apart. it took like 3 months to destroy this last lifter... if i put another one in for ha ha's just to ride out the rest of the season then maybe in teh winter i take the engine out. the lobe on the cam is Fawked. so i need another cam.. im looking at the fms f14 and while the heads are off i was thinking of doing some grinding. any suggestions ? or should i just put it in the garage and stick it out? mabye get aftermarket rockers?? thanks guys !!

Unfortunately after the 3rd time this happened to me it was decided that is was a block issue or oiling issue (due to block). Either way I just decided to get an LS6 block with forged internals and never looked back. It was starting to get expensive replacing cams all the time .

Good luck in your hunt.

Possible that the lifter is rotating in its bore, I'd look at the plastic(?) guide.

I'm gonna have to go with the lifter bore.. Its very possible that the lifter is rotating in the bore. This same exact thing just happened to a friend of mine but it was a ford engine. His lifter looked exactly like that and it was because the spider tray broke and the lifter turned in the bore.

I got another F4 cam for sale for $300+ shipping brand new in the box if you decide to go back to what you had. No waiting.

Peace,
Josh
