I'm starting to think I may buy Comp R's and a set of Patriot adjustable rocker(seems like they are decently priced and they're adjustable too).

I have Harland sharp rockers with comp R's! just added shims & did it right and i have not had a problem. On my 408 that is being built were going with Crane's cause that is what LME uses and they are the ones that the warranty will be with.

Posts: 538 the Comp pro-mag lifters(R)(875's) are only supposed to have .002"-.004" preload..any more than that could result in the retaining clip getting popped out of the lifter and causing lifter failure...so...they only need like 1/16th of a turn past zero lash..so..that being said..in no way, shape, form,or fashion can you just torque them to 22ft/lbs...now..on the OEM style(850's)..they are for standard recommended preload of .030"..just like anyother hydraulic lifter..so torque to spec will be just fine on those
And this one;

Posts: 538 ok..calm down. Yet again we need to discuss this. DO NOT confuse lash with preload. This is apples and oranges, we are talking about two completely different things. Lash is slack in the system, preload is just that..pre..loading the system. The pro mag lifters require .002"-.004" preload HOT..not cold. I would probably put .008"-.010" preload when cold. Zamboxl..you have a Pm.
Hope this clears the smoke.

So, the only way you can adjust preload to be that low is with adjustable rockers? Or simply don't torque it down as much?

I'm not going to make it hard and confuse you:
2 kinds of LSx rockers

A- adjustable
B- non adjustable (non adjustables are trqd to 22ftlbs), only way to adjust preload is by custom push rods or shimming the stands. But this is in NO way accurate. With a big cam, you want to be accurate so (adjustables are the way to go)

I have a set of Comp R's in listed in the classifieds. They are brand new (just been soaked prior to assembly). I swapped out to the Comp 850-16 lifters during the build because I didn't want to spring for adjustable rockers (for the reasons Predator Z noted above). If you want them, I'll do $175 shipped.

Thanks,

Ryan
P.S. Gomer can vouch for me, I just sold him a new FM13 cam.

FYI.. Harland Sharp makes adjustable rockers for LS1's these days. They are designed similar to the Jesel's in the respect that they have the adjuster on the back over the pushrod. I just got off the phone with them a few minutes ago.

You can Get them through Nate @ Nasty performance -------->

ummm... this is weird...... i have a 402 w/ a tiny cam, comp-r lifters, and stock length pushrods, stock rockers.................... they are torqued to 22ftlbs, the motor has been run up to 7 grand a few times, there is a couple thousand miles on the motor. no problems.... how did i get away with not shimming, or running adjustable rockers??????

Just because the rockers are tqed to 22ftlbs does not mean you have the correct preload. It could be right, or it could be off.

Have you check the preload on several rockers to ensure it is correct?

nope... jjust threw the stock rockers on and torqued 'em down to factory spec. i was not aware that you needed to check preload on them..... i do have patriot shaft mounted rockers sitting in the garage.... i think i'll throw those on, however i need a different set of pushrods. do you think i'm losing power with not having the correct preload?
