I installed the doble roller chain from SLP, Everything was perfect clearence was good, but when I started to put the pulley on and started to tight it up,( I forgot to put the car in 4th gear to stop the pulley from turning), so when I turned the pulley and turned the motor I heard the sound of the chain rubbing something when the motor was turning, It sounded like the chain rubbing with something. I took the pulley off and opened the timing cover and there was no mark of rubing it. Could it be the oil pump rubbing it ? I did put the spacer on it.
I also tryed turning the engine without the pulley and with out the timing cover and it didn`t make that noise. So I don`t think is the oil pump touching it, there some space in between them. I thinking if the pulley is pushing something in there to make this happen .

Is it the stock pulley or after market, if it's an after market is it designed to fit the double roller timing chain?

 

its a stock pulley

 

If it's the stock pully there shouldn't be any fitment problems, when I had mine installed it fit perfectly. Anyway good luck finding the problem.

 

Is the cam chain/oil pump sprocket seated fully HOME against the boss on the crankshaft?

 

Yes they are both seated perfectly. I just re did everything without any RTV for testing and everything went smotth, today I will recheck and pull everything out again to RTV everything and hopefully nothing will touch

 

What is rubbing is the boss around the seal on the timing cover. In the instructions it tells you you may need to clearance the cover. I had the same thing happen......you probably only need to take off .040 for clearance.

It has nothing to do with your balancer.

ok, put everything back together, and rubbing stoped. May be there was something that didn`t go in right the first time. Didn`t have to do any griding what so ever. Lets just hope everything goes ok when I start the car.

 

I have had a incidents where there is a rubbing problem with those timing sets.

The area around the seal had be slightly clearanced and situation solved.
