wear test have shown GC 0w30 to be better than M1 5w30. that being said, i doubt that the wear difference will be what causes ur engine to fail. i use GC. Amsoil is supposed to be really good too

GM recommends Mobil 1 Syn 5w 30 thats what ill be using in my 04 LS6 motor for my 98z. I just hope i dont get any major oil consumption my 98z motor didnt have any at all.
