I have a 83 ford ranger 2.2l diesel with unknown miles that lost coolant and overheated it died and will not start. When i turn it over it turns very smoothly like there is no compression. There is no water in the oil (but it lost coolant anyway).

 

Did it die when it was running or did you turn it off and then it just will not start now.

 

It died while driving down the freeway (no sputtering). It also would not turnover at first and as it cooled down it turned over.

 

Umm well i thing the motor might just be a paper wait now. If there is no compretion there will be no way for the motor to run sence diesel runs on compretion. You might have melted the piston rings.

Do a compretion test to make sure.

 

How do you do a compresion test.

 

Go down the your autopart store and ask them for there compretion kit tester.

 

If no compression is it dead or a blown head gasget

 

I am going to bet on something other than a blow head gasket. But it still could be but you whould have to have blowen it on each cyclender.
