Default LS2 block, worth it?

hey yall im new to this board. After completeting USMC boot camp in a few months im buyin me a 200-2002 trans am M6, and taking an extra $5-$8K out for performance mods and whatnot, and i wanna do it right the first time so im not going to find myself wishing i had done differently later.
i know the LS1 is an amazing engine, but i know im gonna wanna bore/stroke it and i know the cost of resleeving the ls1 isnt worth it compared to just goin for an ls2 block and boltin everything up.
pretty much what im getting at is should i build off the LS1 or go for the LS2 block, which is more cost efficient/ in the long run i can do more with.

on a side note, how much can you bore the LS2 to w/o resleeving? How many of you guys are using LS2 blocks and what kinda numbers are you puttin out....thanks in advance guys, im gonna need alot of your guys' knowledge/experience in the near future.

The ls2 block can be made to a 402 on stock bore and 408 with a little more I believe.

You will need a little more than 5-8k to get everything done for the 40x cubed LSx (either an iron block 40x or the ls2 based 40x). Clutch, hydraulics, (go with the Aussie clutch setup) rearend, suspension pieces, fuel system upgrades (pump/injectors) tuning, etc.

Sometimes you just don't want to figure out how much you have spent....

Do both SDPC/SLP setups come with the cam position sensor, covers, everything to retrofit the LS2 into a LS1/6 setup?

If you're gonna get 8k for mods then why not install a set of 6.0L heads and a phamspeed turbo kit. you can get 450rwhp really easily on the stock block. If you do rods and pistons then the drivetrain is the only limit

With a 408 you can get 500+ N/A very easily....
Going with a forged stock CI shortblock is nice, but then you still dont have the ability to make the same power as a big cube motor...

Unless you go all out turbo, then its a proven fact that smaller CI will make more with whats available now..

The SLP kit comes with "LS2-specific valley cover, front cover (with cam-position sensor), timing chain, crank sprocket, and cam sprocket (uninstalled)."

so you all think i should go with a ZL402 short block assembly. at around 4k is that gonna be my best option as far as being ablt to mod this thing down the road? I guess my goal is to be able to have a drivable 500 rwhp setup with the abillity to add much more down the line in the future. I dont want to waste money on a LS1 stroker kit so this is a better option right?

I'd avoid the SLP motor just llike I avoid the rest of the SLP stuff. Check this out.

Best deal I've seen so far.
