Default 100 Octane Safe in Stock LS1s?

Just like the title says... I know of a place near Vegas to get 100 Octane... other than that, in CA and NV, we only have access to 91 out of regular pumps... the Hypertech Tune tunes the car for 93 octane... we don't get it out here so.... would 100 be better or hurt? Anyone know if I can find 93 octane at a Vegas gas station?

My advice: sell the hypertech and put the money elsewhere.

The price of 100 octane isn't worth anything you might gain on a stock vehicle, I'd run 91 on the stock tune and not worry about it.

100 octane burns too cool for a stock ls1. you could add a measured amount of 100 to increase 91 a couple of points or make your own octane booster

if the car is tuned to 93 octane, 100 will slow it down, it burns slower. If you buy 100 unleaded, no harm to converters whatsoever

Hmm... ok thought 100 would be a bad idea for stock... so it's either 91 or 100 out here huh? No 93???

How much is the price difference between 91 and 100. If 100 is worth getting i'd imagine getting it uned for 100 if at all possible would give better results.

Tune to 91, because here in Florida Sunoco 100 unleaded is now $6.59/gal, not worth the difference. Make your own boost if you don't think 91 will suffice.

WTF? he's just adding 100 to his other gas. Hows that going to hurt him?
That will not give you a full 100 somewhere from 92 to 96 is the best you will get depending on how much 91 and how much 100 you mix. Burns slower, hotter cleaner. No performance gain on a stock car.

There's a car wash (I think Shell station) on the west side of Beach Blvd. at the northern end of Huntington near Buena Park and Knott's. IIRC, it's south of Warner and across from one of those strip malls. They have 100LL at the pump. It's been about 1.5 years since I have purchased there, but it was $5-something back then...

One or two tanks prolly won't do any damage. I ran half/half with 91 as an octane booster in my '96 LT1 Impala SS. However, I have been told that prolonged use can damage the cats.

Unless you need it " ie high compression or a blower making high cylinder pressure Ect", you need no more octane than what you can get at the pump. It will slow you down unless you are imagining things. Save your money. If you study up on past posts there is alot of knowledge to gain on every subject. But at the same time there is no harm in asking. There is no such thing as tuning for 100 octane unless you have need for it, not to offend anyone, but just straight information, there is alot of misinformation on the internet. At the same time there is alot of valuable info too. You have to weigh how many times you hear something and who is saying it. Everyone keep your swords in their sheaths, I know you guys were trying to help him.

If you add a little 100 octane for the track, will it help with a little KR from the weather being hot?

Higher octane gas does not burn slower, it is just less likely to detonate.

No. The burn rate of gas does not have to correlate with the octane rating. A higher octane fuel can burn faster than a lower octane fuel and vise versa. Octane is simply a measurement of a fuel's resistance to ignite. The higher the octane, the less likely it its to combust. There are other factors that determine the burn rate.
