tell him to take it to the dealer and demand that they do the TSB for oil consumption. It invloes having the 2nd ring on all the pistons replaced. This wass done on mine and it stopped burnning oil.

Its the rings, there is a tsb addressing this which involves replacing the rings. However the tsb suggests replacing only 1 ring with a sharp edge that actually cuts the cylinders. They also suggest not honing the cylinders.I feel that it is the cheap way out.The real fix is to replace all the rings & hone the cylinders.I bought a jasper short
block instead of replacing the rings.I could not be happier. If your trying to get assistance from GM-good ******* luck. They told me to politely **** off.A leakdown test at your local dealer will determine if its rings or valve seals-I can almost assure you it is the rings.Mine started at 27,000 miles.Good luck.

It might have something to do with the PCV system as well. Mine burns a decent amount thru the PCV system.

Glad you brought up pcv.Switching to the LS6 pcv will cure that problem. But to do that you got to remove the intake & cut off the metal hunk in the valley pan. This is a
good idea but probably wishful thinking.Do aleakdown test.It will reveal the truth.

I have switched to the LS6 PCV setup on my car. Have not got it back together yet to see how much it helped. Incidentally, I did not have to cut my block, that tab was not on my block. My car was a late 2000 model, so I guess I got the 2001 block. I also have the 241 heads.

Thats cool.I hate to keep saying it but i think you should really have a leakdown test
performed.Probably about 180.00 at your local dealer.

Never cut the engine block for a PVC Ls6 install!

Instead, cut the new valley cover plastic and splice in a piece of copper tubing.

This works great!

pphil, I absolutely agree with you. He definitely needs to do a leakdown and compression test first. Only if those came out OK would I look towards the PCV system.
