my mother said my car sounds like a train when pulling into the driveway. I wanna say the sewing machine sound ppl claim is more of the continuous rapping of the sewing head, not the whine of the electric motor working.

Is there a way to diagnose a bad lifter preload without tearing into the engine? Like maybe a wooden dowel and putting it to the ear???
