dude, don't wast the time and money putting a stock(ls6)cam in your car.you will only see 10ish hp and the gains are not worth much. there are a lot of cams out that will idle close to stock, drive like stock and make double the hp a zo6 cam will. if you want something mild a 224/224 cam on a 114 lob or 224/228 114 w/comp 918 springs will give you a nice daily driver with more power.i have a big cam g5x3 and it daily drives great with a tune. call thunder racing and talk to paul. the car will drive with no tune, you will need to drill the th-body hole a little bigger. the sooner you get a tune the better the car will run and the more power it will make. think about it a little longer before you do all that work just to put another stock GM cam in your car. goodluck yo ya bro.

thats the thing I have had a bigger cam than stock before, which was a HOTcam, and I didnt like the way it idled, I love the way my stock idle feels, and I really dont want to give up my stock clutch pressure, which is why I wanted to just do full bolt on's and an LS6 cam so I could stick with an LS6 clutch as well. I dont want to get a more powerful cam then have to buy a stiff *** uncomfortable clutch, i drive every day, in traffic.

z06 cam is plenty fun, and it can get you way way more than 10hp it's all in the tune

Mine is untuned except for the rev limiter being moved, mods and times in sig... I even have the LS6 clutch..

It idles dead stock.. runs well in our altitute, better than most bigger cammed cars in fact.

I"m in West Texas too..

I'll update with the tuning, my flashscan will be here this week.. i'm sure there is more power to be had.

Your times are really good for your mods...and you are definitely leaving a good amount on the table on a stock tune. Nice

You can acheive those goals with a 212/218 114 or 216/220 114 and have more power than the LS6 cam. Both will idle much nicer than the hotcam.

Do you have headers and a decent exhaust? The MTI Stealth II (224/220 116) works great and lives up to its name when you have a good exhaust.

I agree that LS6 cam isn't worth the effort. I would definitely go with 224/224 or bigger cam.

Well I can get a great deal on an LS6 cam right now, and it also allows me to not have to change pushrods or retainers, just cam and springs which I like. I dont want a BETTER idle than the hotcam, I want a STOCK idle feeling, which is what LS6 will do for me. Look at Chris81's numbers and tell me the ls6 cam isnt worth the effort??

LS6 cam got me 363rwhp/349rwtq on a mustang dyno. That's with stock headers, cats, stock A4, through heavy 17x11 wheels and 3.73 gears. so don't tell me it's not worth the effort. Oh, have I mentioned I can idle at at 500rpm and pull like mad to 6500? it's not a bad cam, and if you can get it cheap, it's totally worth it. put the money toward tuning rather than parts and you'll be a happy camper.

Thanks! Did you mean stock heads or stock headers?? If you have the stock exhaust primaries on and stock y pipe making 363 that is damn impressive.

I did go ahead and use hardened pushrods, but just because I knew I would go bigger and I might as well buy them, that in mind I used 918's too.. but the miles they have now i'll just upgrade to a dual spring.

I gave $100 for my cam, and my dad and I did the work.. it was definately worth it for the money. I haven't been to the dyno but the car did 345/351 SAE before the cam and ASP pulley thru the muffler, now i'm figuring 365-370 rwhp untuned now. I'll be taking it to the dyno for baselines next week. BTW, the car has 91k+ on the motor, rearend and transmission.

I'll go bigger, but after it goes 11's on DR's in good air first..

If you want the precise lifter preload you will need a longer pushrod, but I just used the stock length ones (7.40) and i've had no problems (I searched here and found that many others have done the same).

sure does. my friends didn't even know i did a cam swap. it's characteristics are similar to the ls6 cam but gives you a little more power. i put down 371/350 untuned w/mods in sig.

what other cams are in this category of 'stock like idle' i really wanna be able to stick with an ls6 clutch as well, its a daily driver hardly ever goes to the track so im not worried about big launches.
