At first it would go to 55lbs and now it's staying at 40lbs. I'm pulling it back apart and putting a new oil ring in. I should have it done it a few hours.

yo aftermarket valvetrains are known to be loud and it you have headers they are even louder

i dont know how loud your ticking is but a lil ticking is normal

just dont want ya to do all that work for nothing

Did you get a new o ring? the new one is blue and the stock one is black. I had tapping after my cam swap and did a bunch of searching and got a new o ring, lined it up perfect and the tick was gone. the new o ring is also thicker than the stock one, GM changed to the newer one I think they may have realized it needed to be a bit thicker.

Did you figure out the problem? You are kidding about using a hammer to install the pulley........right?

I really don't think I pinched the ring. I reinstalled the crank pulley with a hammer. Yes I checked the rockers. It sounds like just one lifter. Sometimes it will completely stop tapping when the oil pressure goes up and then when the pressure drops to around 35lbs it will start tapping.

Yeah, I got the new o ring. The guy at the dealership just gave me one because he was busy! Guess he didnt have the time to ring it up! Got everything taken apart, and I'll get it back together tomorrow and see what happens!!

I did use a hammer. But just tapped a little bit and then tightened the bolt. It worked great....just took a little time!

Did you replace your valve springs? Thats a pretty hefty cam to be using w/ stock springs. If you did replace the valve springs, are they set at the correct pressure? If not, that could cause "clearance" in your valve train and therefore, tapping.

How did you install your o ring? Slide it on the tube first or put it in the base of the oil pump?

I dipped the o-ring in oil, made sure it was coated and slid it onto the tube. I have 45-50 PSI at idle. But I do have a tick, it's a lifter for sure.

I really don't think the tick is due to low oil pressure. When you install a larger cam than stock, it is not uncommon for the oil pressure to drop like that at idle. I'm not sure why, I just know it does.

BUT.......did you do anything different with the valve springs??

That cam is definitely pushing the limits on stock valve springs. I would start there....

I fixed it. I replaced the old o ring with a new one. The old ring was not pinched at all, but it was smaller than the new one. Oil pressure at idle is 40lbs and goes up to 60lbs when I get on it. Thanks for everyone's help. B.J.
