Default running with out lid

is there any pros to this? a car i looked at had no lid. just an open filter. Also where the filter sits is that the bottom of the lid? it looks like the center part was cut out (unless its 2 pices).....what would have to be done to replace that.

Its hard to explain what i think is cut but the plasic piece the filter sits on....is it one piece or 2? cause it looks like the center was taken out.

he said it had an intake but i think he said SLP.....he told me he removed it cause he didnt like the way the lid looked.....wouldnt an open filter suck in more hot air and cause the IAT's to be higher therefore makeing less power?

An open filter would first of all bounce around b/c it's not sealed by the lid. Therefore, crap would get under and around it, causing all that **** to get into your engine. Definitely not worth it, with the additional fact that it would be sucking in hot air from the engine bay. The lid is there for a reason, let the GM engineers at least feel smart about this one.

Now the FIPK is a bit different. It's obviously meant to be that way

Well on that 35th SS it has the ram air package which directs the air coming into the hood into the filter's area so it's not just sucking in air from the engine.

Unless you have the ram air hood to go along with it, it doesn't yield cooler intake temps b/c nothing stops it from sucking in hot engine air.

it's just the bottom housing of the air box. People don't buy them cut out like that, they do it themselves. Just take a dremel to it and cut out that middle piece and you're good to go. I also used some tape to seal up around the bottom so it's a straight shot from my slp cai kit into my filter, no air gets in from outside of the housing.

By the way, just realized you're a newb to the LS1 world since your civics. Welcome
