I know it don't have much duration to it, but then I'm not really going for a lopey idle... looking for more of a sleeper setup. I like the 115* LSA for emissions and driveability and all that other stuff that most of our wives make us settle for.

Is anyone running this cam? Do y'all like it? What kind of power or 1/4-mile numbers have you made? Do y'all have any other recommendations for a mean sleeper cam?

that's an off the shelf comp grind. i think it would make pretty decent power and i think it will idle like stock. if not, then raise the idle rpm 50 rpm or so..... if you want a good sleeper cam go with one of the MTI grinds, stealth - 220/220 .581/.581 115lsa or their stealth 2 - 224/220 .581/.581 116lsa ... or you can go with the lingenfelter cam which is 207/220 .571/.578 118.5lsa all three cams idle smooth and make good power. the lingenfelter cam is the smoothest, but i think you might make more power with one of the MTI grinds. the thunder racing cheatR cam is great for power but without raising the idle rpm you can definately notice a "beat" in the idle. it's 218/230 with lift around .600 on a 117lsa.

You can go bigger and still pass emissions. What cam you choose will depend upon your mods. A factory exhaust requires extra duration whereas headers and high flow cats will not require as much extra duration. what other mods if any do you plan to make?
A4 or M6? Driving style?

The TRcheater is a good cam for a stock exhasut but seems to add most of the power up top. it would work great on an M6 with gears or high stall A4.

Probably just gonna go bolt-on... LTs, LS6 intake(already got a lid & TB bypass), catted true duals over the axle, U/D pulley, gears, tune, and MAYBE, some heads in the next millenium. It's an M6, and we drive it like we would a Yugo most of the time. But then, I do like to play in it, which is why I'm thinking of a cam swap somewhere down the road. I can handle a little bit of lope(just to make people wonder), but overall I would like to keep it close to stock sounding... idle-wise, that is.

I knew about the duration and exhaust relation and stuff... and in a way, I'm fishing for what's out there to compliment what I have in mind for the car, keeping in mind that the setup is a complete system, not just a wild cam and stock everything else.

I do like the sound of that 220*/.581"/115* profile.

Most any cam bigger than the Comp 212/218 that you are considering will require computer tuning; except maybe the Linginfelter. I have the Comp 216/220 and had to get tuned. For daily driving, wish I had got the 212/218 with the higher lift.

Just slap on a nice set of 1.8 Crane rockers and you wouldn't say that anymore.

yea 220/220 cams always make nice torque/power increases but still pass emissions and idle real smooth.

I almost bought that cam from a member, but at the last second he backed out, and wanted to put the came back in. He said it was a sleeper cam, power level was good, and Idle was excellent, also he kept the cam because he said the gas milage stayed close to the stock rating. I would say buy the cam, the cam I'm using has a nice Idle with plenty of power, I would recommend power tuning with any cam to get the most out of it.

Most definitely getting a tune with the cam. Probably gonna wait and put it in when I do the LTs, duals, and LS6 intake. Since I'll be that deep into the engine, I'll go ahead and replace the pushrods and valvesprings, too.

I know the MTI 220/.581/115 has more lift than the Comp grind I put on here, but it seems like the extra duration would kinda slow down the rate at which the valves open, putting less strain on the valvetrain. Am I right in thinking this, or are the increases in duration/lift kinda proportionate to the Comp grind???

Thanks for y'all's help, by the way. I appreciate it!
