Default Help with holding lifters up during cam install please?

I have 5/16 rods and I can still see the lifters in the front trying to fall down. I keep on spinning the cam and trying to use the rods hold the lifters and I can see the 2 falling down. I thought the rods were suppose to hold the lifters up. Theres no telling what the ones in the back are doing. What should I do?

I read about getting 16 of those little pen magnets and bending out the handles so they won't go all the way down the hole. Then insert the pen magnet and that should keep them from falling down.

Are they falling all the way to the cam or being caught on the 5/16th?

You can always get 16 GOOD pen magnets.

I just went through this. The rods will only prevent them from falling into the pan, not from hitting the cam. If they fall quickly, you will likely have problems pulling and installing the cam. I looked in the motor with a boroscope when I did mine to make sure I understood how the rods work. You might need the magnets and the rods. If you can get the cam out, you might be able to push the lifters higher into the cups with a smooth wood broom handle or something but you might get it stuck part way out too.

Too bad w/ all the folks with worn lifter trays..

I used the dowels, but a full day later, I had to use a decent amount of force to re-seat the lifters.. They probably would have stayed up indefinitely.

Motor only has 23K on it, so I'm sure that helps.

I had the JRP or whatever they are called rods when i did my cam swap and i had 2 that would still hit the cam when i spun it. I figured out that they don't actually hold them all the way up, like they said before it just keeps them from falling. I would have to spin the cam as i pulled it out to get those lifters out of the way.
