The point at which the T-ReX makes peak horsepower on stock heads is often misconstrued as being higher than it actually is. On most cars, I think you'll find that power peaks around 6300-6400 RPM, but carries into the upper 6000 RPM range. This may change slightly with the addition of an aftermarket intake manifold, but you're going to be hard pressed to find a T-ReX that peaks at anything over 6600 RPM, much less 7000.

Trust me the cam peaks above 6300-6400 rpm. Before mine peaked around 6700-6800 and now that I added the 90/90 it peaks around 6500-6600. I still have the shiftpoints setup at 7000 rpm because I was told you want it to shift about 400 rpm after the peak hp.

Thanks for all the input guys, but... after all this... it looks like I am going to be getting a custom ground cam that's gonna be even meaner than the Trex. Can't wait. But anyways, yeah, thanks. This forum rocks.

Has anyone used 918 springs with the trex cam? Can they take 7000rpms?

Big gamble. 918's are great, but not for a TRex. The lift alone is too much.

How much power do you think the trex will make over my current cam in the sig?

Yeah, I think its too much lift for the 918's.

I know, I know. I figure if I am gonna put the pulley on might as well get a bigger cam. I gotta change the valvesprings too. Thats half way there for a cam swap.

Bain, Care to show us your dyno graphs.. Hell in that case, care to show me any dyno graphs of a hyd cam / stock head / LS6 intake set up that peaks above 6400.. Not carry the power, but peaks..

Of course you are going to run faster setting you car to shift past peak hp. Shifting at 7200rpm in a 4l60e drops you to about 4500rpm from 2nd to third. At 4500rpm you are making much less power than you are at 7200 even though the graph has dropped off 15-25rwhp from the peak at 63-6400rpm.

No tread.. You are going with a bigger custom than the TREX? Care to mention specs? Are you sure it is going to fit? Again, If you don't do the needed upgrades, you might be very sorry you put a cam in the car.

Oh, of course I'm going to be doing the upgrades. I'd be asking for a disaster otherwise. As for the specs... Sorry, that's a secret(still doing business w/ LG), but let's just say it is bigger than there G5X4 cam as well(which is obviously kept secret too). The first thing that comes to mind w/ this cam is that there(LG's) highest duration cam that they make, that isn't a custom cam, is there G5X4 & it holds the #1 & #2 spots for fastest cam only. Well, this custom cam is going to be a MONSTER & definently larger than the X4 & will be custom made for a stock-headed 346. So, wish me luck. I'm just gonna have to keep my fingers crossed. We still have a couple more things to work out before everything is set in stone though. But, let's just say I'm very anxious!

Care to do some searching in the dyno forum?

I have a new graph after the 90/90 install that puts peak at 6600 on Mustang dyno. I will post the graph as soon as I can. Also the rpm range that you are quoting fall back rpm (shift extension) is on a stock converter. I have a 4800 converter and the shift extension is 6100-6200 rpm.

I wish you luck on that cam. Definitely a good decision, but you also have to look at the overall picture. The weight of those cars are under 2800#'s, have A3 trannys w/transbreak and huge 5000+ converters. These cars are setup for racing! I also predict in the next couple of months there will be a new cam-only leader with a T-Rex

Ummmm https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php?searchid=2251258 Care to show me the graphs I missed?

There are 2 I see of interest off that search.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...highlight=trex
"but it seems to die after 6700 or so"
This doesn't mean it peaks at 6700 only that it really stops making power after 6700.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...highlight=trex
Look, the Motor peaks at 6300 but carries the same power through about 6800.

LS6 SS's graph look odd to me. Almost like the tires are spining on the dyno but the TQ Declines like it should so I can't say it is spinning the tires.

I think all the rest are ported heads.

Umm Dan Wade is a personal friend of mine. At the time those pulls were made his combo was with Absolute speed 2.5 heads and LS6 intake.

The second one you put up is the second one I put up. The motor peaks at 6300 and carries the power through 6700 before it falls off.

BTW, I'm done with this as it is a mute point with the custom LG cam going in.
