Default How to measure rod bolt stretch

I have Lanuti pro mod rods with ARP 12 pt bolts. Launti says to tighten to .0045" - .005" bolt stretch. I bought the indicator to measre them with but I am not sure how to use it. Any Help? Thanks John.

measure the bolt before you start. insert the bolt and tighten it to required torque spec. put the stretch gauge on the bolt and take a reading. subtract the smaller from the larger measurement. The difference is your amount of stretch. You will need to adjust based on the outcome.

I am Thinking that the indicator that Lunati sent me is a universal type guage and the shoe that fits against the threaded end of the bolt is to large in diameter to fit in the bolt hole. I'll proably get a machinest at work make me another one. Thanks John.
