Default Help!!!how The Hell Do I Reuse These Cometics?

Okay my heads are ready to be bolted back on(just finished flycutting) and I was going to reuse my Cometics. BUT how do I clean them-it seems like there is oil and coolant between the 3 layers. I brake clean the front and back but when i wipe them down more guck comes out from between them? How the hell am I supposed to keep them clean and then spray some copper sealant if they are wet? Do I pop out the rivets and take them apart then clean them? I knew I should of just bought new ones . HELP!!!!

I belive the head gaskets are the only gasket on a LS1 that cant be reused. I would just buy a new set for piece of mind.

Thats why i just use the stock mls head gaskets.Cheap money and they hold up great.I think ive pretty much abuse my motor with a 300 shot to say its a good gasket.

If you can't get all the crap off I'd get a new set. If you don't wanna spend the money on cometics again, you could pick up a set of stock MLS but that'd lower your compression a bit (seeing as how you were running .040's... probably one of the reasons you wanted to flycut as well).

I ended up using the factory MLS gaskets-they actually miced out at .051 and the cometics miced at .043. The cometics looked good but there was so much stuff between the layers-the only way to get it out would have been to remove the rivits and clean each shim-I wan't prepared to do that so I just left them and installed the MLS.

These aren't the stock head gaskets. You can't reuse the paper water pump gaskets either (1998 model only)
