You might consider taking off the valve covers and looking for a broken valve spring or a bad rocker.

You said your cam is not that big. If the cam that you are talking about is the one in your sig I say its pretty damn big. Any way I have the same problem too, and almost everybody tells me its a bad lifter. My cam is a whimp compair to yours so I would say check your springs, rockers, and pushrods. If they are all okay then it will most likely to be the lifter going bad.

Deffinately check your spark plugs. My car had a nasty tic at idle. turned out to be a loose spark plug. It was louder under the car than in the engine compartment

it is probably a bent pushrod or a broken spring (or 2).
I have a decent size cam, and it is just loud for valvetrain noises.

I'd have to agree. I had the same tick and it ended up being two bent pushrods. Any chance you may have over-revved and floated the valves?

Yes Im affraid so. The car is the only car and its a DD so I will have to live with it until I can get some time off, and money to spent on bolts and gasket kit to pull the heads. I just hope it does'nt go before that.

well just fyi but if it doesnt happen when your cutouts open then its not an internal engine problem.

if the cutout just over powers the sound then you may still have a problem but you should probably try to nail down just where the sound is coming from
