Default is this cam to big for a everyday driver

i'm looking to put a cam in my brothers 98 camaro, it's a comp cams xr281 hr 12 duration of 228/230 and gross lift of .571 intake and .573 exhaust with a 112 lobe seperation, his car is a 6spd with lt's and x-pipe. is this cam going to be to big for cruising around or is it going to be ok? am i going to have to do anything else beside's valve springs should i change the oil pump and timing chain? will i need to get the car tuned? any info would greatly be apprieciated we also plan on spraying this motor what shot can we go with this cam

I went untuned w/ a 6speed and a 244/248 .598/598 Comp grind. for a little while. The idle suffered just a tad, but that 112 might be worse than my 115.
Nah man. Your good!!!! Go for it!
Looks like a nitrous grind anyway, so I bet you could hammer it down with a nice 200 shot and be ok...as far for the bottom end it would probably take a 150 with minimal problems down the road.

I can see it being verry tempermental until you get a tune, after that it should work out just fine, especially if its an M6.

Think in terms of overlap. I drove my 230/236 107lsa cam every day with no problem.

My cam is basically that size and I love it! No problems with drivability!

That would be a good daily driver. My tr224 cam does not seem any different than stock around town.

A tune will make that cam drive a lot better. It would be a good idea to get hardened push rods, a new timing chain at least, and the oil pump should be given a thought . I love my cam, but the rare occasion I get stuck in heavy traffic I hate driving my car. It does not like rolling along in gear under 10mph. Regular stop light to stop light is fine, but heavy traffic sucks.

Default What Is Lobe Seperation

WHAT IS LOBE SEPERATION

Can someone explain exactly what is lobe seperation? I assume its the seperation between the lobes, but does that create the lope we all love so much? And what exacty will create more lope? would it be higher numbers (113,etc.) or would it be lower numbers (110, etc.)? I know what the durantion and lift is, just don't exactly understand the lobe seperation......

I haven't read a whole lot of this article but it does seem somewhat descriptive http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/95298/. If you read it just let me know if you understand it or not and how descriptive it is.
