I am swapping cams and heads on a 2001 LS1 motor. Going with a Futral F11-114 , LS6 heads milled .030" and Cometic .045 gaskets. I don't anticipate any P to V clearance problems but want to check it anyway. What kind of clay should I use on the pistons?

Use a dial indicator, not clay.

 

Well, with a dial indicator I could determine the top of piston location relative to the deck at the point of max valve lift but how do I know the location of the valve lip relative to the deck at the same time? Anyone else? Anyone who has used clay, what kind did you use?
