Just wondering what you guys paid for your cam installs and what kind of power you got out of it.

$1700 dual springs, titanium reatiners, hardened pushrods, HPE cam, STB, plugs and wires, installed and tuned...388rwhp...got it back in a day

 

Depends on the shop. Some chage up the *** and others only a little up the ***.

 

Better question for Internal Engine section.

 

Prices for installas are going up. $2K w/ parts. over $500 labor alone. I did my own in about 6 hours.


Made my own Valvespring tool.



We had 2 projects going at once.

 

You can probably get someone from your local forum that has done one before to help you out too.

 

Wow, I thought my C5 was a bitch to work on. The engine sits way back on an F body. Holy ****.

Thanks for post the pics the Dave! I've been thinking about installing a cam myself, but when I look at my engine bay it's almost overwhelming. I guess when you get everything out of the way you really have a decent amount of room to work with. I was thinking how big of a pain it was going to be bending over and reaching out to change the valve springs, but if there's room for you to stand in the engine bay, that's not a problem at all.

 

do it yourself its not hard

 

from what ive read it isnt hard, but i found a shop that will install it for $250, so thats where im takin my car now. Im pretty sure most places charge alot more though.

 

Had mine installed by a local ls1 performance shop. $400 for cam, springs, pushrods install. $350 for tuning. I gained 43rwhp with my cam.

 

Had my installed for free. I did it and gained lotsa horsepower

 

Sounds like you went to the same place i did...
$400.00 for the install, $350.00 for the tune, $4oo.oo for the cam...
Approx. $1200.00 clams...

Dynoed @ 389hp 379Tq...

Gained 40+ HP from my last cam ( TR220)...

 

Another vote for do it yourself, i've done several and just don't get in a hurry and you'll be fine. Just read up some and decide how you want to hold up the lifters.
Or be ballsy and just go for the quick pull and replace.

Just make sure you have all the right toools. Follow the instructions on ls1howto.com

 

done two or three cam swaps my self get pen magnets if the lifters dont stay up but if you do feel over welmed by the thing then take it some where to have them in stall the frist thing that will freak you out is the frist start up the vavletrain is real nosie at frist then it settels.

Once you get all that crap out of the way, you have a regular park bench to sit on when you look down on the timing set! thanks GM!
