Default big cam! stock manifolds?

would anyone have any suggestions on how big of a cam i can run. I have a 00 a4 t/a with a k&n air filter, lid and a descreened maf.. I have stock manifolds, no cats and a texas speed rumbler exhaust. i will be adding long tubes in the future but am unable to at the moment because of a broken hand. thanks for the help.

I say if you are going to LT's later, why not get the cam of your choice. Then when you get LT's it will be able to breathe?

I know you said your hand is broken and cant get LT's now. Why not get LT's first then cam?

Yeah, but taking crank bolt off still must be a regular PITA. only cause you have to be semi careful with your hand/arm regardless. But I ran a 222/226 cam for a long time with stock exhaust with cats and all. You might as well do it peice by piece, because you are still getting a bit more power either way you look at it. LT's will just be a plus whenever you are able to put them on.

i have installed headers before and i have helped on a cam swap. from my experience i think the cam is easier and i would rather have the cam before the headers anyway. so if you have any advice it would be greatly appriciated.

Go as big as you want cam wise, cause no matter, you are going to leave anywhere from 20-40 hp off the table until you free up the exhaust side, but you will still be able to drive it.

I put in a pretty good size cam and still have the stock exhaust on....cats and all!! Yah it does suck leaving all that power on the table and all but i only had money for a cam OR headers and got an awesome deal on this cam so i couldn't pass it up!! Besides i just wanted to hear my car lope a little....i was tired of sitting at the stoplight beside another cammed car and all you could hear on mine was the damn fans turning on!! But look at it this way....you might be leaving all that power on the table but when you finally put on those headers there will be soooo much power to release!! I'm FINALLY getting my headers during the christmas break!!
