Default cometics question

i pulled my heads and cometics gaskets. the gaskets have a lot of the old gasket material on them. so i cleaned them the best i could but everytime i pick them up i see more crap on them. how clean do i need to get them? every time i pick them up i see more crap between the layers .seems the old gasket material is everywhere.

Use some brake cleaner to get all that stuff off. You don't want something like to be the reason the heads don't seal.

FYI, I have used copper-spray sealant on my last three Cometic installs and have had no issues from leaks....

Get that thing together!!!

You don't need to dip it in brake cleaner. Just spray it off. I also use copper spray on mine before installation. It sounded like there was dirt or other stuff on the gaskets. It only takes one can of cleaner and 5 minutes of your time to clean and prep them. They can be reused a couple times from what cometic implies.

I keep cleaning both my heads and deck but when I removed the heads after claying the piston, I noticed an oil residue on both sides of the cometics. I dont know where it is coming from. Does this affect the sealing properties and is aybody else seeing this?

?? Like what...i've knows a LOT of folks who use them? I use them. Make sure they are oriented corectly, torqued correctly etc. They do an especially good job at matching iron to aluminum.
