Cam spec help/advise
Hey guys, I bought a used cam a while back and am contemplating installing this weekend. The guy who sold me the cam didn't have the cam card so I decided to have it measured. Here are the specs via Cam Pro Plus:
Intake @ .006": 278.3, 33.6 BTDC, 64.7 ABDC (duration, opening, closing)
Exhuaust @ .006": 281.8, 72.9 BBDC, 28.9 ATDC (duration, opening, closing)
Intake @ .050": 225.9, 7.0 BTDC, 38.9 ABDC (duration, opening, closing)
Exhaust @ .050": 227.0, 47.8 BBDC, 0.8 BTDC (duration, opening, closing)
Intake peak lift: 0.34308"
Exhaust peak lift: 0.34350"
Intake C/L: 106.3 ATDC
Exhaust C/L: 114.3 BTDC
If my calculations are correct, and please tell me if they're not, my cam is 225.9*/227* duration @ .050", .583"/.584" max lift (1.7 rockers), 110.3* lobe seperation angle, 4* advance ground in, and 62.5* overlap @ .006" (6.2* overlap @ .050").
My car is a stock headed '02 Z28 M6, with stock 3.42 gears, LT's and catback, and a lid. It's currently my daily driver and I endure a 1 hour, 17 mile comute home from work on weekday evenings. I'm going to attempt to tune this cam with a Vinci tuner. If that doesn't work, I'll either get it dyno-tuned or get an EFILive/LC-1 setup and tune it myself.
My questions are: 1) I can live with a rough idle, but not stalling, surging, or hot start problems. Will this cam be too much for my 3.42 geared daily driver in heavy traffic? 2) Will the Vinci tuner handle it, or will it need more advanced tuning? 3) If I do decide to install it, should I install it straight up?
I don't have very much experience with cammed cars, please let me know what I'm getting into. Any advise is welcomed. Thanks in advance.
Bryan

My questions are: It will be a tork monster, will require 93+ octane. You are going to need some sticky tires.
With a wideband you can get around to tune it with the handheld on cam 4 setting. Of course a dyno wideband tune would iron out the imperfections.
If you dyno tune it, YES, if you are using the VINCI, NO, since the vinci has 6100 rpm shift points. (it's only drawback)

Thanks Predator. By straight up, I mean dot-to-dot, which would be 4* advanced (ground into the cam) if I'm reading the cam specs right. Is this how I should install it?
