1.140" + .609"= 1.749"

If you start off with 1.800" of install height with no shims you will need .051". You will probably wind up with slightly more (say .060") because you will probably never see the full lift at the valve anyways.
Ok, let me see if I understand this myself. I have crane 832's and using your suggestion I come up with this:

Install height = 1.770" (This is what I measured on my AS heads with no shims)
Bind Height = 1.045"
1.770 - 1.045 = 0.725"

1.045 + .050 = 1.095"
At .614 lift + 1.095 = 1.709"
1.770 - 1.709 = .061" SHIM

or

1.770 - 1.045 = .725
.725 - .614 = .111 - .050 = .061 SHIM

So looks like my new install height would be 1.709 using a .061 shim with .050 cushion before coil bind right?

That looks right to me. Just remember to measure with the locator you are running on the spring for your initial install height. In other words use the retainer and locator you plan to run on the head and shim off of that measurement.

Thanks Geoff! Now you got me wondering as I can't remember if I measured using the Locator or not, I think I did, for sure the retainer.
