This rod bearing, would this mechanical device be considered a member of the "top" or "bottom" end?

Thanks.

The best advice I can give you is... kick yourself in the nuts.. 13k on the engine and you have to **** it up. Respect the love of your life.. And you're just gonna have to check out everything until you eventually find the culprit. Or take it to a pro..

Please don't take this the wrong way, but based on your obvious lack of mechanical knowledge you have no business going into that engine yourself. Anything you try to fix yourself to save money could (and likely will) cost you a lot of money in the future paying someone else to fix your mistakes. It's not hard for someone w/o a clue to completely destroy an engine.

Bring it to someone for the repairs.

Hey, S*** happens, Im sure we all are guilty of playing around.

Get it into a good shop for investigation. 13000 miles, you have warrenty yet????Before I bought my car I had them fix a noise in my car; it was a spun cam bearing....But when it they fixed it, the dealership ended up leaving a bolt in the intake when they put in a new longblock..Im sure we all know what happens then....Make sure to find a good shop or someone who knows wtf they are talking about and doing. Good luck

In my opinion, anyone with simply the inclination to work on their car can accomplish a task as easy as checking pushrods. Thats the great thing about this site, if you come to a problem thats beyond your ability (no matter how rudimentary or advanced) theres plenty of folks to help. Simply checking the pushrods wont likely involve any tricky areas that could potentially toast his motor.

to that, but if it gets deeper than that, like I said 2 posts ago, seek perfessional help. You might be surprised as to who on LS1tech here is in your area who might be able to help.

its not a main bearing... you'd know if it was a main bearing all the time.

It's the VTEC cam. Don't you guys know Ls1 has a second cam, right where the bottoms rockers are

Jokes aside....sorry about that....

My bet is either bent pushrod...or bent pushrod that made your rocker arm loose hence the tapping....either way, you'd have to be a complete moron if you don't know how to swap those...it's just 2 metric sockets, a wrenche and a 22 ft-lb torque wrench....I always put a drop of lock-tide on rocker arm bolts....doesn't hurt....
www.ls1howto.com has a great step-by-step writeup with pictures....

Good Luck, and let us know.

dont listen to the guys saying you can't rebuild it, or diagnose it. all it takes is a few books and a few tools

first question. how much haveyou driven the car since you've had this problem? if you have a bad rod or bearing it wouldn't last more than probably 50 miles... you'll be slowly dropping oil pressure and the knocking will get worse

now, if it's not that (which it more than likely shouldn't be for a motor that new unless there's something seriously wrong with it) you could have a bad lifter, rocker arm or push rod. also, i dont know how well you've kept up on matinence, but if you dont keep up with an oil change and the oil get old it can cause the lifters to make a knocking noise.

to diagnose a bad lifter/pushrod/ or rocker arm i would suggest you adjust your valves and pinpoint the bad one. they may have just comeo ut of adjustment, or you may have a bad one. if you have a bad one you should notice the noise to come back pretty soon

good luck,
-harold
