You're rebuilding your motor right...are you putting new stock rockers, reusing your old...or upgrading to a better valvetrain?

The only reason two of my stock rockers failed were because I broke the valvesprings in relation to those rockers. I bought two stock rockers to replace those, and haven't had a problem since. I plan on using only the stock rockers, even when its time for a rebuild.

I think I believe that the stockers fail when there is valvetrain instability. Nonetheless, has anyone lost a motor due to a stocker losing its bearings???

First two stock rocker failures...I fished all the needle bearings out luckily....last one I didnt get them all out and shortly thereafter my motor went south...but I cant say it was only related to the rocker arm failure. Only thing I can say is when its apart I would put in aftermarket rockers for less friction and more power...let alone bearing failure...just my personal preference.
I wish you the best of luck and cant wait to see you run again at Cecil

It happens ALOT my personal car never did either but I have replace dozens of sets that did. Either nip it now or do it later whan they do deceid to go. And you will only have valve float with Roller rockers if your springs are not up to the task.

by the way...my theory is to replace with Adjustables....not YTs...
Even in the ad at one of the sponsors web sites..."eliminates needle bearing failure"...LOL

I just emailed Nate about the rebuild, I wouldn't mind doing it, better to be safe than sorry. Mine have held up to 3 cams, and they "seem" ok, but I don't know for sure. With a new 402 being built, one less thing to worry about is needed in my books

My car only has 10,000 miles on it. Had a rocker fail at 8000 miles. I picture that failed rocker everytime the car is at 6500 rpm and makes the slightest sputter or ticking. Will be e-mailing Nasty about getting my stockers re-done when I do my next cam just for peace of mind.
Then all I have to worry about is the stock 10 bolt, oil pump, timing chain and rod bolts.

With my Yalla Tarra 1.8 rockers I added Comp 918 Bee hives & Chromoly PR. No problems & have turned in excess of 6500 rpm many times. The needle bearing failure rate is higher than many think, just ask your local high performance wrench. I don't like taking chances, just my .02 cents

A friend of mine that used to work on a bunch of f bodies once called me cause he needed a stock rocket to replace one that messed up and that was the only one he had seen so maybe one out of 200-300 cars between the both of us. thats 1 out of 3,200-4,800 rocker arms. Thats a 0.0003125% -0.0002083% failure rate.

But thats 208 rocker failures per million rockers...do you think GM would be happy with that? 16 rockers per V8 LS1...
My expert wrench has done hundreds of cams too and im the only one where he has had rocker arm failures that ive heard... You just dont know when its going to happen. My theory was it had to do with spring/rocker/cam/pushrod combo...but from all the stock cars/trucks breaking...that throws that theory out the window...I think you take the good ones with the bad ones..GM supplier quality.
