Vinci 079 Cam Question

Hey guys,
Just noticed this cam today, and wanted to know your guys thoughts, 210/218 with .551 lift and an LSA of 116. Anyone using this yet, I would love more info. It would be going in a stock 04 GTO with yellow LS6 valvesprings. I was looking at the GT2-3, but like the fact that this cam has less lift, and hopefully will be less stressfull on the valvesprings. I am also under warranty, and am looking for a stock sounding idle. Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks,
Rick

Well, it has the Z-cam or Crane accelerated lift lobes which are more aggressive than OEM. You'd have to ask Vinci about the valve springs. Call 'em and ask if this cam would be an improvement for you. If it would not, they will tell you so. If it would they will tell you why.

I say give it a try, people on this board are not huge fans of vinci cams, because of the relatively small profiles, but ive talked to both Roger and Joe and we share theories and opinions on camshafts. The Vincis believe in "useable" power in their cams. They offer great torque curves and awesome driveability from what i have seen. And on the "STREET" i believe torque wins races. And ive seen too many guys run these huge cams on the street....great dyno numbers....but require a bit more throttle for that good acceleration and if your "picky" not great driveability. Ive seen tons of fast cars wth small cams so dont be attracted by highh dyno numbers and huge profiles. Once again this is MY opinion and i agree with the Vincis.....There are tons of guys who run huge cams with great success so it can be done....I say if its a TRUE daily driver and you want a cam with great power ALL across the curve give them a shot
dont think you will be dissapointed

I am a little biased as far as Vinci Hi Performance goes, but I don't think you can go wrong with their products. Give them a call and they will give you the no BS skinny on whether or not that cam is for you. I am using a different VHP cam and it has a distinctive lope to it (not stock-like) and is great on the street. I personally would not want anything larger for the type of driving I do.

IMO that cam is way too small to justify a swap, these days the cam that I have is not considered large. Do yourself a favor and go bigger. The 228/230 that I have now is my fourth cam and it is still too small. When I think about what I've spent on cams and installs I get sick. Finally, I am doing the installs myself with a friend so the cost is not a total killer, but the advice is go much bigger the first time.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I really want a small cam with a stock idle for now. I also do not want to change valvesprings every 20,000 miles, as I drive 40,000 miles a year. I PM'ed Joe, will see what he has to say. Thanks for all of the responses

most that you now see in crane's catalog (of vinci's) were at one time designed by vinci. after a year or two, crane gets to put them in their catalog. one of those behind the scene agreements.

I did look at the sdpc one, but the duration is higher than I wanted, especially since I will not be tuning it until my warranty is up. I was happy with the fact that sdpc recommends the LS6 springs for it, though. The lift on the two cams is the same, so if the ramp rate is the same, I should be golden.
