Exclamation Help with 5.3 Heads.... Anyone using 5.3 heads come IN...

I am in the process of building some Stock 2002 5.3 heads. I did a search on this but I think I still need more info. What is the biggest difference between stock LS1 heads and the 5.3? If I did the exact same thing to both heads which would be best over all? Any Info would really help, those of you who are using these heads please fill me in. Also will I have to use the stock rocker arms? The specs on the cam I will be using are 224/224/581/581 114LSA...... Will they even work with the 98 LS1??

Chamber size is smaller on 5.3 heads giving more compression. They also have smaller intake valves than the 5.7. The 5.3 is the better choice and you need new valve covers because the 98 year was the bastard year. Keep searching this has been done more times over than you can do in one life time.

The ports are the same, the intake valves are smalller...

Hed casting info

Basically, other than the valves the heads are the same...the 5.3 chamber ceiling is cast ~.030" lower to give it the 61.37cc vs the 66.67 of the 5.7.

u can use those heads but u have to match the chamber size to a 3.900 bore and use 2.00 intake valves. u can machine the seat to use a 2.00 valve with a 3 angle valve job and then have the heads cc'ed so u can figure c.r. which is alot of work if u dont plan to port them to a hi extent. ur better off using stock ls1 f-body castings and reworking those.these 5.3 are good if u want more compression and plan to reshape the combustion chamber some which is possible with these heads because they have more material in that area and different design as opposed to ls1/6- good luck-
