Default ARP studs torque specs?

The directions from ARP says to torque the head studs to 65ft, what about the 5 smaller studs on the top row? Ls1howto says 22ft for gm bolts. How much should I torque the top 5 studs to? right now I torqued the top 5 to 25ft and the lower(larger studs) to 65ft.

Default Bolt torque

Depending on what lubricants and sealers you are using, I would torque the larger studs to aleast 70-75ft. and the smaller ones to 25-27ft lbs. I am considering you are using cometic head gaskets. What ever torque come up with or choose, always torque them in 3 steps. Good Luck!

I got cometic in also, but I torqued by hand then 25, then 55, then ended @65ft. So the top 5 stud @25 ft is okay? anyone?

I would call ARP. The torque value is to get a specific pre-load in the bolt so you don't want to be wrong on this. Also, all of their torque values are using their ARP Moly lubricant including under the washer and nuts.

I am assuming you mean the nuts, not the studs too as the studs should only be hand tightened.

I torqued mine to 25 or so, and when I asked the shop that did the shortblock, they said that was fine where it should be.

Torque (with Cometics or not) with ARP Lube on Aluminum heads 65 (I go 30, 50, 65) and top 5 @ 23. No need to go tighter on the small studs.

65 and 22, use the moly lube. Torque would be different with oil.

Ok I have three different torque specs here.

In my searching I have found these specs:

First set - 50 60 70

Second set - 40 55 65

Now you guys are saying - 30 50 65

I am getting ready to install some 12 pt head studs and I am really lost on what I should be torqueing these things down to.

I was going to do 50 then 60 then 70 - seemed to be the most common atleast.

I have the actual directions, but they dont say what to take the 3 passes to, only end up at 65 with ARP Lube for Al heads. I used my division to avoid any forgetfullness.

Oh, ok cool. I will do 40 55 65 then.

Also you just get the bolts just snug with an allen wrench?

Hand tighten them as per instruction. I had a couple that had sticky spots so yes, I used an allen wrench and barely went to snug.

Anyone know where I can get an extra washer and nut for those 10 smaller studs? Guy I bought mine from did not send a washer/nut for one of those.

the people who built my engine had a bunch of extra ones around. I would go to a local machine shop/engine shop, and see if they had one they would let your have cheap/free.
