2000, no slap. Had it since 10.5K miles, it sits at 50K right now. There's a chance its hidden in there somewhere, 'cause I can't hear sh*t anymore thanks to my LT's and a nearly straight exhaust.

Oh, and it consumes over a half quart of oil every 3000 miles.

2002, Had slap from the dealer, ran 13.1 w/ lid/catback and crap tires w/ 47k. 0w30 gc oil, might switch to Amsoil 5w40 as many people have reported it quieting down the motor. I have slap at cold start, and warm restart.
I have had some customers report back with a quieter motor after switching to the Amsoil Euro formula 5w40. I'll be switching as well this spring to see the effects for myself.

I switched from the Mobil 1 0w40 to the Amsoil XL 5w30 and did notice a slight drop in engine noise... I'll compare it to the Euro 5w40 when I change my oil next.

First oil change at 25,000 it started. I used Mobile one 5w30, 10w30, Havoline 5w30, 10w30.
The only thing that made it a little quieter was 10w30 Castrol syntec with a quart of 10w40.

At 25,000 miles the dealer changed the lifters and checked the oil pump o-ring, replaced the belts and tesioners because they said they made the noise sometimes.

Nothing helped, the lifters were quiet for like a day or two, they are an "improved design",, so I bring it back for the same noise and all of a sudden this same noise is considered normal.
They did "say" they extended my engine warranty 68,000 miles.

My noise is there at all temperatures, seems to be when it idles it makes the noise, speed it up it goes away, back to idle it slowly comes back. Same noise cold, same noise after a 3 hour drive. Heres an old sound clip of it.
my 02 sounds identical..even after a 3hr ride as you said..never ever goes away.. i bought the car off a 1 owner with 42K on her and as soon as i changed the oil i heard it..he must of had some slick 50 in there to kill the sound when i checked it out when buying 3 times! i was pissed. but now the more i read i am not so angry. i run AMSOIL 5W40 the euro. and it is still just as loud. oh well....Piston slap=loose pistons=faster
