Unless you can think of another way to make sure there are no metal chips in there.

Default rocker set up

Hey Bud, Make Sure Rocker Arm Pedalstal Is In Place Properly, Pusch Rods Are In The Rocker Cup, And That The Flat Side Of The Truion Bearing On The Rockers Is Facing Up. You Should Not Have To Turn The Motor Over At All, The Ones That Are Going On Hard And The Ones Where The Valves Are Opening/closing. Once Tight The Lifters Will Then Bleed Off. Good Luck Pal!

When I took my pedistals off they were upside down. Now in the pic over at LS1Howto - http://www.ls1howto.com/howto/fbody/...valvetrain.jpg - the pedistals are not upside down??

Is there a difference? how should they look?

Also i remeber chasing the threads on one of the rocker bolts. I had a shop vac in there sucking up all the debrie and a rag but i still felt paranoid after. So i rigged up a straw onto a shop vac to suck into the spark plug hole.

Doesn't matter wich way the pedestal is, but it should have been put back the same way it came out.

I just did a cam install and the rocker bolts went in with my fingers. Almost sounds like you cross-threaded them. I hand started mine, then used an air ratchet, then a torque wrench. I torqued them to 22 ft/lb and turned it 180 and re-checked. No change.

Alright now I am onto the headers. And of course the last bolt I thread into the header almost broke off. I need to retap ANOTHER THREAD! This is starting to **** me off to cause I am having to backtrack way to much in this install. I am very very very lucky that this bolt did not brake - thank god for the stage 8's.

So anyway... what size tap do I need for one of threads for the headers.

Mental note to self: Check all threads before installing new heads. I just learned something at your expense. Good luck, sounds like you're having a blast.

yeah you bet I wish it would never end. Having to backtrack several hours is not that fun at allllll. Luckily it was just one thread for the headers that needed to be tapped.

Sounds like you are doing something wrong. When you install an item, do not tighten any bolts all the way before the other bolts are started. Snug them up by hand if possible, then use a torque wrench on them.
