You don't have to remove the head. Just get a tool to pressurize the cylinder with air. If you have a 2 piece compression tester, they work great. Then you can just remove the rocker, use a valve spring compressor to remove the lock, and replace the spring. It takes about 10 minutes. I'm sure theres several tech articles here on how to do it.

I imagine pretty much any vendor will be able to get you one spring.

Haha thanks! Jim says he doesnt know when he'd have time. I'd do it but all this talk about measuring install height and stuff has me thinking i better not learn it on this particular engine. I'll buy the springs, the tool, and the spring micrometer and have the car towed to Jims house. I'll help you guys out too lol.

If you get the same springs again, you don't have to measure anything. though i'd understand if you didn't want to.

You don't. He had asked about a different brand spring, and i/we told him just to make sure they were compatible, and have the same specs. I'm sure ETP will be recommending him a spring.

i may have caused some confusion there. All i was implying was that whatever spring he decides to go with should have the same rec. install height, spring rate, etc...

Ok i talked to Cary at ET today. The Ferrea springs i have arent the defective ones. They are the updated springs which are good. They have the dual springs which run the same direction rather than opposed. Cary says to call on Monday and Craig will send me a new spring for free. The inner spring didnt break so Cary says my valve might be ok so we'll see. So Eric, we only need to replace 1 spring lol. Wohoo! Bad news is i pulled the metal connectors out of 2 of the plug wires when removing them so i need ot put on a new set of wires which is oh soo hard. Haha.

sorry to hear this motor is still giving you problems. How many miles were on the springs? Id be kinda worried about the others if there arent many miles on them. strange for one to go out, makes you think the others arent far behind. Geometry all good? pushrods good? Not trying to bring you down just bringing light to things that should be checked.

Springs had 3600 miles on them, same as valves, heads, and all other parts. All were purchased new. Havent checked anything really.
