If you took a picture I think we could be more helpful. You said you are using all standard tools?Don't strip any bolts man.

Yeah that bolt was one of the worst parts of my cam swap. I used my little 1/4" drive ratchet on that bolt cause it was recessed into the bracket somewhat(if my memory is correct) and I couldn't get a wrench on it.

i'm not using standard, just most of my stuff is, so i only have 3/8" metric stuff

no 1/4" stuff

and i've been fighting with that bolt again....i cannot get that thing to come off!!

i don't know what good a picture would do. its the last bolt on the coil pack bracket, passenger side. there are 2 heater core hoses right there, in the way from the deep well socket seating onto the bolt

Yeah, you're finding out that these projects are more tedious (read, PITA) than they are technically difficult. I'm trying not to laugh but I remember how hard that bolt was. Personally, I thought getting the radiator and hoses out and back in was the worst part. I'm just finishing up my heads install and I'll be very glad when I'm done. I wish I had some advise regarding that bolt but I don't remember how I got it out.

1/4 in rachet w/#10 deep socket. You'll eventually get it, and when you do, toss it.

Go buy a 1/4" set of metric sockets, you'll use them forever. Quit killing yourself.

I really don't see what the problem is with that last bolt. I take my coils packs off in 15 minutes. use a gear/ratchet type wrench to get that sucker off. Think that's a PITA just wait till you do an intake swap and have to get the back bolts off.

the lack of pasience..

it's a very long bolt.. on a very bad position... just take your time.. a gear wrench is the best thing there... just get a hand from a skinny guy...

A ratchet wrench is going to be your best bet on that bolt. Go buy a 8,10,13, and 15mm. I can't calculate how many hours those things have saved me.

I remember that bolt, it sucked. I think I used the 1/4" wrench but I also used gearwrenchs for a few so I'm not sure. Having the right tools can make a 2-day job into a 2-hour job. Ok thats an exageration but it does make a huge difference. Just go buy some more tools, you'll be happy you have them on your next project and so on.

A gear wrench doesn't use a socket. It's just like a box wrench but can ratchet. It is really the only solution. I don't see how you can say no one has them. Autozone has them (great neck) and sears has them (craftsmen) I know for sure. I'm telling you man this bolt shouldn't take anything. You need to turn it a 1/4 of a turn then you can just screw it out with your hands. Or at least I could. I know I have a 98, but I doubt the bracket mounted ones could be too much different.

Yup 1/4 inch drive and 10-mm deep well socket. Worked like a charm for me.

I JUST took that bolt out (literally two hours ago), and everyone that's saying use gear wrenches is right. Go to Kragens, Autozone, Ace, Napa, anyplace really and they'll have them.

The key (well for me at least) is to have the wrench come in from the back instead of trying to turn it from the front. You still stick it in from the front, but try and get the head on the bolt so that the handle of the wrench is facing the cowl, and not the front of the car. This gives you tons of room to maneuver the head onto the bolt, and eventually spin the nut.

I tried sockets, swivels, and extensions and I couldn't get them to work at all for me, even after 20min of fiddling. Once I did the gear wrench from the back the bolt was off in 3min. Hope this helps.
