Motor made 740rwhp/725rwtq on 14psi and pump gas at 9.5:1 AFR. I'd say the heads flow well enough. Besides...as Tony at AFR has written many times, flow ratings don't tell the entire story. When I had them done, I didn't want them hogged out. The car makes good power down low...after all, it is a street car. No excuses needed and none given.

I am not really too interested in a 4500 short block just yet. I would rather spend a few dollars to try to prolong the engines death, and just rebuild later. I saw that KP is only running forged pistons, everything else stock and was wondering how long that setup would last. https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/nbrinkw2/B...boosted_05.htm He is #7.

I would'nt do a $4500 shorty either..

I'd build my own... No matter how much I had to play with I like to crow about how I built it.

IMHO just get compstars and forged pistons if you want to save some ching.

When rods go it is'nt pretty so maybe get some affordable forged rods too..

Howards rods are only $250 more and the eagle forged crank is only $869..

My short block will probably be wisecos on howards bolted to the eagle crank and pinned in the saddles by ARPs in a LS2 aluminum block..

$899 block, $750 rods, $500? pistons, $869 crank... ARP mains $160 etc....

I am forced into this same scenario right now. Done alot of research over the past couple of days. The cheapest way out is a Torque plate hone approx $200.00 if you need to bore figure another $175.00 or so. Forged Mahle pistons are about the lightest out there approx 40-50 Gr lighter than stock. Also Ive seen the Mahles sold with rings for less money than the JE, or Diamond piston set alone.. Many of the top engine builders are using the Mahle.....For Rods I am either gonna go with the Compstar or Scat. pricing is pretty much a push, Compstar comes with the ARP2000 but its an additional cost option with the Scat. I found Scats for around $400.00

So by my calc:
Pistons: $550
Rods: $400
Machine:$375
Gaskets & Bearings:$300 (head gaskets aint cheap)

$1625....prior to balancing no quotes for that yet.

The stock crank is noted for being good for 900 to 1000 hp. We kept the stock crank in the 790 rwhp twin turbo Corvette (see my project car section)that we built. I haven't heard of anyone breaking one. Bob

Ron, don't forget to throw a new oil pump into that mix. I'd also use ARP head studs. Bob
