when to change lifters
when to change lifters i have a 2001 5.3 with 59k miles and i am going to be getting a new cam for it, are the lifters reuseable at this mileage or a should i replace them.
They are, but it doesn't hurt to get a new set I guess...
I am replacing mine but it costs around $200. Since I am doing heads/cam i'd like new lifters in there also. Mine have 75k.

This question falls into two different categories of thinking:
1) if it ain't broke, don't fix it
2) why not upgrade it since you're already in there
The first category is for those who have replaced lifters when they didn't necessarily need to and then had problems with PITA replacement lifters (*ahem* comp r lifters *ahem). The second is for those who have had luck with their replacement lifters (a lot of times, comp oe replacements). It's basically up to you, it's like replacing the oil pump when doing a cam swap.

I don't totally agree w/ that last statment. I would much rather and WOULD replace the oil pump over the lifters. Not just b/c I was in there but b/c w/ the cam, higher rpms etc, you need to ENSURE that oil pressure and failure isn't an issue. W/ the lifters, if they aren't a problem don't worry about it IMO. Now if you have the spare cash and need the piece of mind, then put new ones in. I'd just go w/ stocker replacments though.
