383 stroker help
Hey guys, ive been throwing around the idea of getting a 383 kit and giving myself some much needed cubes. before anyone tells me to search or something, i tried to search but for some reason it keeps saying and error message. now my question is what else would i need besides the rotating assembly kit, for example this one from lunati [/URL] . im not necessarily looking at only this one, im open to others as well. and i am more getting this for the sound more than anything, so power comes second, since in my area i am already one of the fastest cars and im just stock. what kit is the best or most complete? would i need to get a different cam and heads or could i use my stock ones? ...ive never dealt with upping displacement before. Thanks for all your help - Josh

No matter what you build you need a good set-of heads to match your cam and exhaust. It has to breath. I`m getting a set of ET 245`s for my 408. You can go bigger with the cam because a stroker will eat it up. If driveability is important also be careful on choices of cam. You can build a strong engine with eagle parts etc to help pay for a good set of heads. My shortblock is built for 1000rwhp and is less than a 383 with Lunati parts. Good Luck!

If your car is pretty much stock, maybe you should start with a heads/cam kit and all the bolt ons. Jumping into a stroker would be pretty much pointless, unless you were in need of a rebuild and had major cash laying around to buy the parts to support it. If your bottom end is fine, I'd reccomend a set of QTP HVMC 1 3/4" headers with their y-pipe, a set of ETP 215cc 11* heads, a 224/228 camshaft, and a FAST 90mm intake. All that should be more than enough to make your stock rear end and clutch beg for mercy. Then you can save for a 12-bolt and a clutch.

you don't need a new cam or heads to have a 383 stroker. if all you did was change out the bottom end, you might pick up about 20rwhp/tq across the board. When you step up to better flowing heads, and a cam, you will have a more significant gain compared to a 346 bottom end.
FWIW, you might want to consider a 402 short block instead of a 383. 402's only cost a little more
