Well we cut .100" off all the intake height. And with the stock 7.4" PR it did'nt clear. So we cut one cyl to .130" and with the rocker at zero lash we had .069" clerance.
I know I'm going to need a shorter PR. The heads are milled .050". So would I need to get 7.350" PR?

Also I'm thinking about running .080" PTV clearance. Will this be OK???

I fear that youre making the same mistake I made when I first checked P to V. Youre using a low tension checker spring, right? Well the checker spring isnt strong enough to push the pushrod into the lifter, so you essentailly have no lifter preload. What this does is pushes the valve further open since usually the valve springs overcome the lifter plugner spring.

What you need to do is get an adjustable pushrod, and tighten it so that you get it tight to 0 lifter preload when you torque the rocker down. If the adjustable pushrod is not available, you can also simply loosen the rocker all the way up, and hand tighten it till its just resting on the spring and pushrod. This second way is less accurate, but should still be within a few thousandths.

I just got a PR length checking tool. I will use it tonight. The second method you talked about is how I was checking it after I thought about the PR being to long.
Thanks man.

I trust that you found considerably more clearance afterwards? Probably didnt need to flycut so deep.

The gaskets I got are from thunder. Part # 12558809x and 12558810x. What gaskets are these? Stock replacements?

What is the thickness of them?? I'm clueless.

With the PR tool set at 7.350" it had about .080" that was using clay in the valve releif.

I'm having problems using the cutter. It is jumping around a little bit and broke a few teeth off. Now its not cutting evenly. I think I need a new cutter and a thicker 11/32 shaft

They are the GM graphite gaskets. According to Hot Rod's website, they measure 0.048" thick compressed. I thought they were a little thicker. They are stock replacements but the MLS gaskets were also being used on later year models engines.
