Default What's a good street cam?

I have a daily driven SS and I wanted to put some cams, but I was wondering what cam is good for a daily street driven car. I'm also getting LT's and a ORY soon. I just don't want my car to break down in a few thousand miles. I want a reliable car, but I want it to be modded.

I wanted to put some cams
well, bad news... you can only put one cam in at a time.

what are your goals for the car?
A4 or M6?

try a comp 222/224 .566/.568 114

-makes great power
-easy on valve springs
-nice little lope.... not loud until you add a cut-out

i made 400rwhp with that cam and stage 2 heads (10.6:1CR)

im running cam + boltons and am happy with my cam. it will all come down to the tuner you have doing your car. A great tuner can make just about any cam streetable.

TR224/224 good tune will give it a nice flat torque curve from 1800 on up for street driving.

I'm running the MS3 and think it's a great cam. Going with a cam like the MS3 will affect daily driveability a little bit though. With a good tune it's not bad, but there are some things that you'll have to get used to such as letting it warm up good before you take off and some bucking every now and then. What other mods do you have/plan on doing besides LTs and ORY?

I DD my car every day that I don't decide to drive the TJ instead. Drives 98% like the stock cam. A good tune and correct gearing is everything in that aspect of good manners. Makes great power. Start engine, idle for 10 secs and go, no bucking, surge or hunting for idle. The MS3 is a nice cam but would need 4.10s at minimum for me to drive it everyday in 6spd.

Well right now I have a lid/gmmg/ftra. I plan on getting 3:73 gears. The mods planned within the next 6months is headers, heads, and cams. So do you think I should get the magicstick for a daily driven car?

tr224 numbers in sig. bigger cams are good if your ginna keep the rpm in the range to get the power, if your not going to play above 6000 rpms dont bother with bigger cam

If you are an A4 I would suggest a converter before a cam.
But M6 can hold a fairly big cam like you are talking about with some supporting mods. 3.73's, decent exhaust, pulley lid and intake with the MS3 would probably give you some useable street power.

Criteria as per first post:
1- LT + ORY
2- Reliable (Long term)

Based on these, I would have to say GT2-3 from LPE or 216/220 Comp (XR269), good powerband, soft lobes > reliable.

man ive been doing lots of research and pm lots of knowledgable people here like predator-z and 99blanco..honestly, for a street car daily driver i recommend a 224/224 cam. you just cant go wrong with it. that cam sometimes puts down more hp than guys with huge f13 cams or bigger..im also looking for a sick setup for my auto too..im looking for something thats just a tad bit bigger than a 224/224..

G5X1, FM11, TSP 228R
But since you're a bit undecided, get a hold of Ed at EDC and get him to make a custom grind specialy for your setup.

That too, those cams are pretty much all in the same power range. But seriously custom is worth looking at and Ed is pretty good at what he does.
I made one for my Vette since I couldn't really find something like I wanted on the market. I have no idea how it will perform (kinda exxxciting), but I can say it will be unique.
