I'll get a video/sound clip tomorrow morning for ya and post it in a new thread. There were a few others wanting to hear a morning start and idle. Forgot who they were though.

I'll have it on by 12:00noon.

I just don't really buy the whole oil thing. It seems they have the public already believing that oil must be changed every 3,000 miles, and we all know thats just BS.

Based on your mods, just stay with Mobil1. I run Mobil1 in my SS and RP racing 11 in my 622 race motor.

There probably isnt a big difference betweent the two but i just wanted to get some opinions.

Let your conscience and wallet be your guide. Oil companies have made fortunes from good advertising. I've never personally had a oil related failure and I've tried virtually every oil there is in my bracket cars and dragbikes and my erveryday vehicles. I currently use wally world 10-30.

I don't like Mobil1 or Royal Purple. Do a search for Patman and oil and you'll get a good deal of info on this subject.

From PATMAN on these forums I have discovered that the ls1 likes the thicker oil...with a cSt of around a 14. If you have mobil 1 and tufoil additive you achieve a cSt of 14.3

Amsoil tends to wear above the 14.3 once it starts getting some good mileage on it. (A LOT of people use the 0w-40 castrol i think it is?? COULD BE WRONG ON THAT)

but do some research around and ask PATMAN to help ya. I drive my car normally and on the track every once in a while.....royal purple is too much for a normal car

STick to your Mobil 1 or switch to the castrol that PATMAN will recommend you. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about, I spent 3 weeks researching and learning about viscosity and everything else http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ go here for info too!!

check out the viscosity table

I've always used Mobil 1 and decided to try that german Castrol. It seemed like I heard more knock on cold start. I'm back with good ol M1.

i have used mobil 1 in everything i have owned for about the past 10 years, in my 99 ss i use a mix of 5w30 and 10w30 and a k&n oil filter. my car has 136k miles on it and still runs great. the inside still looks good too.

btw- you guys DO fill the oil filter up with oil before you put it on (during an oil change) don't you?

But that's my oppinion.

no.. the guy is full of ****, and he keeps posting up tech advice.

i tried sending him a polite PM about it, but he just wanted to argue the point.

im really not sure what to do about it next... i did see that a couple of his really bad posts regarding forced induction fueling were deleted... thankfully before someone took his advice and blew up their motor... but i dont think theres much we can do to keep him from spewing BS all over the board..

someone does need to keep a eye on him though... posting advice like you know what the heck you're talking about, when you dont, or you're just guessing, is a good way to help newbies blow up their cars.. heh.

Patman reccommends Mobil 1 0W-40 right behind German Castrol.

I switched from 5W-30 dino old to 0W-40 Mobil 1 at 97k miles when I did the ported LS6 oil pump and it did wonders for my car. Definitely not going back now. Love that stuff.

Yes, I do, but I've also heard some call on this doing anything. I figure it can't hurt.

I don't care who recommends Mobil1 at this point. EVERY single motor that I have had apart that uses it has varnish all over it. I just do not see this with other high end oils.

Personally I use Redline and it consistently outperforms the other oils I have used. Is it better than EVERY other oil? I don't know I haven't used them all. All I know is from the oil analysis I have had done Mobil1 in the 10w30 and 10w40 grades I use is not as good as Redline or Amsoil.

no, it's definitely a good idea. pressure builds much quicker with the 3/4 quart in the filter already!
