You will never see an acurate poll/comparison on oil brands, trans fluid types ect. due to most using what the manufacturer suggest. Most have never tried RP, Redline ect. but will post against it just for the simple reason that GM doesnt suggest using it. The only way to get a good comparison is to do your own testing "as some have in the thread".

There probably isnt a big difference betweent the two but i just wanted to get some opinions.

Mobil 5w30 right here! And loving it.. Yes RP can have gains but is it worth the extra cashflow?? Its all up to you.. M1 has been around for a long while come stock in porche vettes and maybe some ferraris? But none the less Mobile1 Gets my vote.

Mobil1 5W30 as well. Just stay away from their extended performance stuff. Its group 3.
And like eamador said, don't bother changing M1 every 3000 unless its a brand new engine. Just put a Wix filter in and worry about it every 5,000.

I use the Royal Purple 10W40. I have high mileage and this stuff works best for my application. I have tried just about every oil that people reccommend, and this stuff has good oil pressure and doesn't burn off as easy as the mobile 1.
People just have to go out and try for themselves. You can also send oil in for a analysis to see what actually works best for your application.

Ok, I have always used M1 and beat the crap out of everything I had. Never a problem related to oil but plenty of problems. The faster I went, the more crap broke, but no spun bearings. Just blown head gaskets, broken valve springs and crap un-related to oil. I just want to say that I don't trust magazines or tv shows for anything because I know how they are paid. I would love to see someone independent and unbiased possibly from this forum devise a test like KOJI777 was talking about where oils are used and measured pressure is applied to something and the results are shown. I donno if it's worth the trouble but I am curious. Until then, it ain't broke and I can't afford to fix it, so it's M1 for me.

Not really. I change my RP in the SS every 5k. I run it in all my vehicles. I go a little longer(6k) between oil changes in my minivan and Avalanche. I've experimented with different synthetic oils on the wifes minivan. It's got 97k miles on it. If I use anything besides RP, I mean anything, the valvetrain is noisy.

I have used both oils royal purple and Moible 1.. I use the 5-30W.. In my opinion I would stick with 5-30W.. If you live somewhere where it is not cold or doesn't snow.. I live here in cali, so I don't really have problems with the weather.. If you live somewhere where it snow's or hella cold like below 30 F.. I would suggest going with a thicker oil... Now someone ask how much is the RP.. It cost about the same as Mobile 1 synthetic .. So there is really no big price difference.. maybe just a couple of cents. 50-75 cents.. The only thing I notice about mobile 1 is that it does eat oil a little.. After an oil change like about 3 to 4 weeks.. I would have to add a little oil.. not alot just a little.. When I switch to Royal Purple I did't have add oil anymore.. I use the same filter with the oil changes I did with mobile and royal.. The filter I used was an K&N filter..
Royal Purple also has Synerlec... Which is suppose to be better than syntheic oil.. It's suppose to provide a stronger film on the bearings..
In my opinion both are good oils.. They coast about the same in price 6-7 bucks a qt.. But hey you only change your oil like 4 times a yr.. or more if you have a daily driver and put alot of miles on their.. I have use mobil1 and royal.. But overall I like royal purple and wouldn't go back to conventional syntheic oil.. It will increase your gas milage by a little not a whole lot also you won't have to change your oil as much..
My choice of poison is Royal Purple..
