Default New Cometic head gaskets w/gas-filled o-rings

In the latest issue of Hot Rod they featured a new head gasket by Cometic called Phuzion (spelling) that has a gas-filled o-ring to prevent blown head gaskets in boost or nitrous applications. According to the article it was tested on a big boost LS1 putting out big power (sorry don't have the article in front on me) with no failure.

It's a MLS gasket, but the main difference is the o-ring that seals the top of cylinder bore is a separate piece that is laid carefully on top of the top of the cylinder bore deck area after the gasket in put in place. Cost is around $200.

I saw those at SEMA, they looked pretty neat, I like that they have no seam in the o ring. They only come in 1 thickness, I believe it was like .051-3 range. They said more around $300-350 a set when I talked to them. The SCE Titan gaskets look like a very nice piece as well for $190 a set, those gaskets have a seam in th o ring pointing one of the bolts on each cylinder but have been tested at very high boost levels without failure.

Isn't lifting a head more of a common problem than blowing a gasket in high boost applications?

I think the advantage to the gas filled ring is that if you do lift the heads, the pressure inside the ring keeps it in contact with the head preventing pressure losses.

Now thats a high tech head gasket!

I've burnt some of these things out, between two cylinders in fact. The bore size of the gasket was slightly bigger than the bore (4.030" vs 4.00"), that may not have helped i guess. I went back to standard GM LS2 gaskets and have not had another problem. Again, the bore vs gasket bore sizing was probably the cause of the fault... well that, the OE heads and 15psi.
