I bought my heads about 3 years ago for $1,300 complete and the cam was less than $200. I installed them, so there were no labor costs. I dunno, I can't understand why anyone would say this price is a waste of time when the car ran 11.80's and has trapped as high as 118 with 3740 raceweight.

I'm not singling anybody out, but what puzzles me is that many guys talk about how the LS6 cam/heads is a "waste of time". I've viewed posts by many here and other sites with "better cams/heads" and find they are running a few tenths & mph slower than what my "waste of time" package runs. lol

After listening to what many have said, I tried a "better cam" and let's just say, my old package worked pretty damned good.
Tell them !!!!
I think some enthusiasts think that just slapping a big one in there is going to make the car faster than anything else.
COMBO, that is the name of the game.
Combo goes from motor to tranny to gears to suspension, in brief a well balanced car.

Ty_Ty, why don't you tell him about clutch, gears, intake, headers, TB mod etc... before he should even think of slapping a big one in there. 230/236 or 231/237 with 2.73 gears, yeap that is a good match

His initial post gave no info as to where he lives, emissions and his ride is mostly stock.

My first advice is do a compression and leakdown test before anything, to see if your motor is healthy, then go bolt ons, then think cam > heads.

Intake and exhaust should be on shortly. I was really just looking for something fairly cheap but still pretty effective. Nitrous excluded, i was pretty much looking for the cheapest way to 11's. Won't ever be a race car, maybe see the track a few times, but I mostly want it to cruise around in and be a fun ride. When this car hits 11's i'm done and will move on to something I can get crazy with. Thanks for all the input everyone!!!

If you want to stick with your decision, you can build it cheaper than with TRUE LS6 heads.
PRC (TSP) or Patriot LS2 (LS6 casting) ported for $850
A used LS6 cam or better yet a Katech LS6 replacement cam (tighter LSA brings power range earlier on)
7.425 Comp p-rods and a H/C gasket bolt kit.

Agreed.. there is more to it than a number..

My 100k stock headed, LS6 cammed motor runs well for my altitude.. (11.65 @ 118 corrected from 3582 ft DA for comparsion) mods and numbers in sig.

I love my LS6 cam, it runs very well for what it has.

Here's mine. Mods are LPE GT2-3, GMPP LS6 Heads, Dynatech long tube headers with cats(stock catback), SLP underdrive pulley, Speed Inc CAI, and tuned. This is with cam only vs cam and heads. Same mods for both runs.
