Default LS6 Heads and Cam

I'm looking into putting LS6 heads and cam on my 98 Vette. What kind of numbers can be expected (car is otherwise completely stock)? What else, if anything, needs to be done? Any other suggestions for that price range? Thanks

you will need headers, a stall converter if its an automatic and computer tuning.
expect around 400 rwhp with everything above.
personally i would go with a bigger cam and i did.

Its an MN6. So I would need headers and some tuning. Not bad.

I would go bigger, but i'm not really looking for anything insane. Maybe somewhere down the road, but not right now.

What cam would you suggest?

GT2-3 from LPE is basically a hotter LS6 cam. Very nice and idles like stock. Stock car and my car idling next to each other, you can't tell the difference

ls6 heads and cam is a waste in my opinion... spend a little more and get something nicer and faster... youll want it later.

What do you mean by "a little more"?

I'm only looking for low 12's maybe high 11's some day. Don't need to be the fastest car around.

You may add 30 rwhp with that set up. You can gain that on some AFR heads alone or a different cam alone.

Car will not need to be tunned, but to get the most out of it a tune would be a good investment.

If I'm going to go all the trouble of swapping H/C, I wouldn't install LS6 cam, I'd go little bigger/streetable cam like TR 224/224 114 LSA, I would also have the heads ported and polished, but that's just me.

heads = 1,575 http://www.totalengineairflow.com/pr.../gmhead/gmls1/
cam - 375-400 thunderracing.com or futralmotorsports.com
head gasket 150ish
ls2 chain- 40 shipped sdpc2000.com

and i think you'd be ready to go

i would preferable get a bigger cam... but thats me... for those heads i would guess a 230/236 or a 231/237 duration cams would be good.

I am pretty much with you on this. I have been climbing the cam ladder lately. I started small and progressively got bigger. I should have gone solid roller from day one.

I'll agree with what many in here are saying about "wanting more". When I went with the shelf LS6 heads/cam, the AFR's weren't available and some guys were having problems with the Patriots.

I bought my heads about 3 years ago for $1,300 complete and the cam was less than $200. I installed them, so there were no labor costs. I dunno, I can't understand why anyone would say this price is a waste of time when the car ran 11.80's and has trapped as high as 118 with 3740 raceweight.

I'm not singling anybody out, but what puzzles me is that many guys talk about how the LS6 cam/heads is a "waste of time". I've viewed posts by many here and other sites with "better cams/heads" and find they are running a few tenths & mph slower than what my "waste of time" package runs. lol

After listening to what many have said, I tried a "better cam" and let's just say, my old package worked pretty damned good.
