This spring i will be doing a cam/stall/intake and possible head swap.
And will be removing the eng/trans out the bottom, and was wondering if anyone know of a how to guide, and or tips.

I pulled from the top. I think that it was much easier.

 

i pulled mine from the top and i think it was easy to..if you know what your doing you can pull and drop in a motor with the trans at the same time...just make sure if you pull it out from the top you take off the intake manifold

 

taking it out the bottom is simple

remove all the bolts on the top of the shocks, get the computer sitting on top of the motor, get the couple of ground wires and power wires going to the motor off, take out 6 bolts from the k member and the 4 bolts from the trans cross member, remove a arm and drive shaft and lift the car up.

 

I do have access to a lift (for about 2 weeks) it's my buddies dads garage,and he's a huge MOPAR guy to him it's (MOPAR or NO CAR)
I'll be working on it everyday after work as long possible. As long everything goes right, i hope to have it done in a weeks time. And then trailer it to SPEED,INC for some dyno tuning.

I would just like to get the best info i can and alot of tips to make the install go as smooth as possible.
This will be my first time doing anything like this, so i'm kinda nervous.
I'll will have alot of buddies helping, several are vets when it comes to this stuff.
They are more knowledgable with older motors. so is there anything i need to know that might be differant with an LS1?

droping it is a quicker process

 

like orangeapeel said definately print off instructions from one of these two sites to use as a guide. Then if there is anything you are still unclear on you always have this website!

if u have a lift go for it. but if u don't and do what i did picking the car up with a cherry picker DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I had no idea that you were going to have access to a lift. Should be a snap! Good luck man!

 

out the bottom...should take you no more than 5 hours if you take your time...

theres also a book called "How to build high performance LS1/LS6 V-8's" and its by william hendzel. Has a nice whole chapter just about dropping the engine from the bottom.

 

Yeah i already have that book and another LS1 book.and all the install how to's . i'm just trying to get all the info i can becuase this is my first time doin this kind of stuff. thanks for all your help

 

then you have all you need to get started......just get a couple buddies.....a 12 pack.....and get started taking **** apart!!

 

I am actually in the process of swapping the motor and have a pretty long thread going with lots of pictures. I am actually almost ready to put it back in. This is the scary part for me. I am also inexperienced on this and have just been taking advice and reading the How to BUild an LS1 book. I hope to god that it fires up when all is said and done.

 

that might be a problem becuase i don't drink beer. I'm a liqour kind of guy.
