Default Best Budget Heads for Small Cam

I have the comp 216/220 .525 .532 114 LSA and some mildly ported 241's that are now having some issues. I want to get some heads that will work well with the cam I already have. I know the AFR's with their small, high velocity ports would work well for this cam, but I don't want to spend the money. What heads would be a cheaper alternative, with good low and mid lift numbers? Is there any worthy alternative, or should I just wait awhile and get the AFR's? I'm also trying not to draw any added attention to my heads because I have to deal with CA smog.

I just don't know if the large port volume used on some of the "budget" heads is going to work well with my small, low lift cam.

Check out the cnc ported ls6 heads (true 243 castings) from patriot and livernois if budget is a real concern. Theyre pretty cheap for what you get.

For such a small cam (anything 220 DUR or less)
I would say:
Stage 2 (215cc runner) 5.3L head
or
NEW Dart 205 cast

That is Budget, Top of line AFR 205's
Keep in mind Patriot is comming up with thier PREDATOR castings in 205 cc as well.

Would these be as good as the 5.3l 2.5's with my small cam?

So do you guys think the new LS6 ports would work well with my 216/220 .525 .532, or should I fork out some extra $$ for the stage 2.5 5.3l's? If the 5.3l's are better for my setup, are they worth almost twice as much???

How about those heads on a smaller cam motor. I called you guys earlier last week about those heads, but would really like to see them with a small cam(ie 216/220) I could be persuaded to put them on my car for a good deal, to get some numbers with my 216/220 .522 .522!

Redneck Z, IMO, I think you would be better off with the PRC LS6 heads like I used. I would even keep the stock LS6 springs with a cam of that size. The "yellow" springs are good for ~.560" lift.

The intake flow numbers between both heads are very close, even with the LS6 Stage 1 heads using stock valves. The LS6's can also be had in a similiar package as the PRC 5.3L as far as valve and spring options, but would do even better with big valves. I like mine as I don't have to flycut the pistons using a larger camshaft, while I would be cutting it close with a 2.04" valve with my cam.

The compression between the LS6 heads and PRC 5.3L heads is marginal, LS6 would be 10.5 to 1 unmilled, while 5.3L would be between 10.6 - 10.7 to 1. With either head, you will need 99+ valve covers and coil pack brackets since you have a 98 F-body. One other thing we could do is mill the LS6's for a little more compression if desired.
