Default Newbie...Cam Selection and Question!

Just like it says, I dont know much about cams outside of the basics, and I was wondering what would be a good choice for my mods (in signature). The 4.10s are on their last leg so I will probably go back to stock gearing after these. This is a daily driver and I do most of my racing on the street. It will see the track a few times but not a lot. I am shooting for a distinct tonal difference and an increase in lower end power since more often then not I am racing light to light. My other question was on average what are yall paying for install/labor?

Well its a DD and primarily a street car so nothing huge...I dont wanna have to stay on the throttle to keep the car idling or anything but I also want a nice lobey idle and a wider powerband. Another newbie question: why are 4.10's critical for a 224+ cam?

Yeah, you will have a different tone with most 220+ cams. But if you want low end power dont get into too high of a duration without keeping your 4.10's. Or replacing them. Otherwise it will be a dog down low.

i'd go with the f11 cam. im not a big expert on cams and specs but the f11 and f13 are really popular. f11 will give alot of low end torque and the f13 will give alot of high end torque. for wat you want, i'd go with the f11 bc u can pull on ppl from digs. now for the install. it's all in who you know. lookn at about 390 for the cam, then oil pump for $125 and a timing chain for like $90. might as well buy a new fuel pump while your at it.http://futralmotorsports.com/fms_par....asp?pf=1&pg=5 id check that site out. the f11 is great also bc u can ride around at a decent cruising rpm and not something insanely high. if it was me, id be getn the f11 but im broke as hell bc of a damn loose wrist pin. had to buy a new shortblock ('99 w/ 23k miles on it), got a '03 ls6 cam, single valve springs, pushrods, and retainers all w/ 18k miles on em, pacesetter headers + tsp ory, d/s rotors and stock wearever brake pads lol. im broke. i wanted the f11 but then id be even more in the hole. u can get by without tuning on a TR224/224 but u might as well a) get a cam that u truely want and b) one that will kick some ***. so spend ur money wisely. o yea. for the install... hmm cost of parts prolly lookn at somewhere around 500 to 600 for parts (ur lucky u dont need a ls6 intake...like i do) and close to 500 to 1k for install. 500 if u know someone and 1k is most likely what the avg price is. most guys around here charge close to that. hope this helps. later bro

Well I have 4.10's in now and from what I am hearing thats probably what I should stick with. If I were to change I might go to 3.73's just to prolong the 10 bolt until I can afford a 12 bolt or 9 inch.
