Default PCV Questions?

When I had my motor installed in my car the shop plugged the fresh air source for the pcv system. They did however connect the oneway check valve coming out of the valley cover (LS6 PCV) to the nipple on my Fast intake. When I remove the oil filler cap, I can hear all the vaccum being released.

If the motor has no fresh air source for the pcv is it possible that a strong vaccum in the engine can cause oil pressure problems? I also have been having alot of oil being sucked into the intake.

The way you have it set up WILL suck alot of oil into the intake. and no it has nothing to do with oil pressure.

The way that they have that set up for you is going to cause a serious oil leak. WOT=pcv valve closed and engine unable to breathe from the crankcase. This will push at least one PITA seal out at some time. They probably did this to prevent oil from the crankcase to be sucked into the intake manifold like all LSx engines do. If you want to correct this, unplug blocked fresh air vent side of PCV and run into a tank with a breather or just a breather. I run two AMW catch cans on my '03 Z06 roadrace/autocross car. One on the vent side,one on the PCV valve side. Works great and no oil in the intake. If you have crazy amounts of blow-by you ought to do a leak down test of the motor.

Well, I put a breather on the fresh air source and a catch can between the valley cover pcv valve and intake. Now, at crusing speeds my oil pressure in about 4-6psi higher and fluctuates more than it did with it blocked. So I guess blocking the fresh air source does infact effect oil pressure do to a strong vaccum in the crankcase.

crankcase pressure while not directly impacting oil pump operation, does have an exponetial affect on breather presure which in turn directly affects oil pressure by reducing effiecency of the pump

So hold on a sec is the LS1 howto wrong??? http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=18 I had alot of oil in my intake when I pulled it awhile back, clue me in here.

i dont know what part you are refering to, but any PCV system is not designed to "force" crankcase pressure into the vaccum source, the PCV system mearly provides a way for the engine to relieve itself of excessive case pressure

Here's how mine is setup. It solved the same problem you have.

1. Cap the driver side valve cover PCV connection

2. Run a hose from the valley pan to a catch can

3. Run a hose from the catch can to the LSX with a PCV valve in line

4. Run a hose from the passenger side valve cover to the air bridge. You will need to drill a hole and install a grommet to do this.

DONE! No air entering the engine unless it has passed through the MAF first. Mine car has about 1200 hard miles on this setup and the catch can is dry.

If you were to cap the fitting on the TB and the Intake and route the two lines from the back of both valve covers to vent to the ground. Can you just cap the valve cover where the throttle body hose was connected or do you need to run a breather?

im by far not an expert but i have done alot of reading on the whole pvc catch can issue and from what ive read you definately do not want to just use the oldstyle drip tube setup it will cause your motor to fill up with gunk alot quicker and again thats not my opnion thats the general opnion i recived when beating the topic to death a year ago while tring to decide what i was going to do with the whole pvc catch can mod..

Furthermre, the way i understood it was you want the vaccum from the tb to help clear any debris from the pcv system but you dont really want it ending up in the TB ...hence the catch can mod

Well, not a whole heck of a lot. I basically want this...A list of possible solutions for your pcv system, the negatives/positives and the cost. This would be a huge help to EVERYONE. It would definatly be in a sticky somewhere.

it may help havin the valve closer to the vaccum source to react faster to changes in vacuum, this however is my opinion, my previous posts are facts
