For several weeks now i have been researching the heck out of cams and valvetrain set ups. Up until a few days ago i was sure i wanted a TSP 224 cam. But i keep wondering what the best set up for that cam would be as far as rockers and springs. Now i am wondering if i should just stay true to one brand for EVERYTHING. It seems to me like if i were to get Comp EVERYTHING then everything would work in good harmony...? Or crane everything.
I've been convinced that 1.8 rocers and a smaller lift cam combo is what i want because of the throttle response they offer, compared to a larger lift cam smaller rocker combo. I guess?

Right now i am totally stock insides. I have a T56, i plan on getting a 9" 4.11 set up, and i am looking for a daily driver. I dont want to spin it over 6800 at all. High RPMs on stock bottom end just scares me.

For the price, i wanted to get the TSP224 with their PRC kit, and then some comp rockers. I figured the smaller of the 2 224 cams would be better for 1.8 rockers because of the huge lift. Or should i just pick a comp cam?

I plan on tuning it all up with my VHP tuner.

Im kinda stuck on what to do now.

 

IMO, don't waste your money on aftermarket rockers. The stock ones are great, and there's really no need to change them. 224's are good cams, but you shouldn't need any type of dual spring for them, Comp 918s work fine.

Do you have headers yet? If not, I would do that before anything else...

The TSP cam packages are a great deal, I almost ordered one this week until I found something else by chance.

 

So the stock rockers are okay? Hmmm. Im all about saving $$ I have not done headers...because right now i have a LM. I was planning on ordering EVERYTHING at once from TSP. Headers, Ypipe (maybe catted), Cam kit, oil pump, LS2 chain, gaskets and tools...and then at the same time ordering a 9" without the 3rd member b/c i found i guy on this site that sells them with detroit lockers for $650. So...one BIG order, as soon as i get my valve train stuff figured out.

I like the idea that the 224s are cool. Now, should i go with one that has 580ish lift? If i dont have to use a double spring, then am i okay? I dont want to have to change these things out 30k miles later.

 

If you want some rockers that you are need re-assurance out of. Send your stockers here http://www.nastyperformance.com/default.html They will rebuild them for like $250 and ship em' back to you with upgraded parts.

 

If you go w/ the 224/224 cam just get some comp 918 valvesprings and hardened pushrods. Thunder Racing advises against using 1:8 rockers w/ their 224 cam, so just keep the stock ones. I just got a cam package from Thunder Racing and it cam w/ everything including gaskets. Good luck man

do you have any emissions sniffer test to deal with? If not you can go bigger than a 224 with the 4.11 rear.

 

No sniffer, but i want to still get some decent gas mileage. Why, what cam were you about to recommend?
