Default Locking the Flywheel?

What is the best way to do this without the flywheel locking tool? I dropped the starter and wedged a screwdriver in, but no luck . Anything will help

Are you trying to get the flywheel bolts off? I just used a crowbar in the teeth and had someone else hold it.

hey when you pull the cam make sure you use something to hold up the lifters. unless you want to fish them out of your oil pan

the heads are already off and so are the lifters. The head bolts are clean and everything is ready for the TSP H/C swap. I just can't lock that damn flywheel to save my life.

Just read ls1howto.com If the screwdriver doesnt work it looks like you'll have to buy the tool. Autozone might rent something like that.

I popped that round plug on the bottom of the bellhousing towards the driver side and used a crow bar in there. I did this 3 or 4 different times by myself so I know it worked for me fine. I wish I would of owned the tool anyway though..

Another idea for folks that have had this problem is make a holding tool yourself. Get a piece of 1" angle iron about .125" or so thick and drill a couple of slotted holes where the starter holes would be. Get some shorter bolts and lock it in this way. Basically same thing as a flywheel locking tool and you can pick a piece of iron up at Tractor supply for the tune of $10 or so.
